Dewalt or makita?

i bought a cheap cordless drill which never has any charge when I need it. If I buy a decent one will the battery hold any charge for a long period of time? Eg if I fully charge it and pick it up in a months time will it have enough charge to drill a few holes?
I’m also looking to buy a power screwdriver which I assume is what a power driver is?

Any recommendation on the best make to buy? I’m considering a Makita or dewalt pack where you get a drilll and impact driver. They are around £130-£160. I’m only a diyer so don’t need pro tools. They are 10.8v 2.0 ma

Milwaukee or Bosch (blue) in that order, but of your 2 of choice it would have to be Makita.

Out of your two, I've used the Dewault and it's a good bit of kit.

Yeah and it's, mostly, Dewalt and Milwaukee scammers that do this. The batteries can be nearly as much as the tools. I like Tool Zone stuff, dirt cheap, comes with two batteries, does the job and is cheap enough to chuck when they pack up. I have a narrow boat and everything I have bought to work on that has done the job just as well as the expensive things. The "tradesmen" will probably never work on anything as hard as the things I am drilling, cutting and hammering especially as most of them are working on wooden, cardboard modern housing. Oh yeah I like Argos stuff as well.

+1 for Makita / Bosch blue. Dewalt/Milwaukee pfft, in years gone bye. (bit harsh not all their products deserve a pfft!)

All the current drills are lithium batteries and they will hold a charge a long time.

Personally I think the 12v stuff is better value than 10.8v -much bigger range of options and they have the grunt to drive in 100mm screws and bigger, yet still light and compact. If you only ever need to use it for small stuff the 10.8v are good.

Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee, are all pretty much equal in quality these days. Depends whether you prefer blue, yellow or red.

Im a fan of the 12v milwaukee

I brought Milwaukee 18 volt over ten years back in Aus. Found it far to heavy so brought Panasonic 14 volt as well. Some of the Panasonic is still working. Been fantastic especially the hammer drill.
Problem is a lack of a range.

The brushless 10.8 volt Makita combis are powerful and compact.

The top end brushless Makita 18 volt combi is incredibly powerful.

That said the introduction of brushless models across the Makita range mean there are some great bargains for the brushed models.
