That is incorrect - it was "I would not even rape you".
At no point did he ever suggest that he would rape anyone - he made a joke.
It's still of bad taste don't you think?

If it were unprovoked it might well be considered in bad taste.
Many people seems to be willing to ignore why it was said in the first place.
I still don't see the connection. But women like that course more problems than they solve. Shes a disgrace.
This is no provocation that justifies 'joking' about rape. Full stop.If it were unprovoked it might well be considered in bad taste.

Yes, I know that.
Exactly my point. It isn't a joke.So what's the joke?

Sammy, I read this page from the top.
Mattylad's comment mentions a joke.
Bodd says it was poor taste.
You said it wasn't in poor taste and tried to justify it because of what she'd said in a meeting.
I said there is no justification for ever 'joking' about rape.
And now you tell me there is no joke? I am having trouble following what you're going on about, tbh, but then it has been one of those days!
As for the joke bit, he's been excused by some as 'making a joke'.

It is similar to something recently in a TV programme where a man was looking through school railings to try and see his son.
Another child came up to him and asked "Are you a paedophile?"
To which the man replied "No, but if I was, you wouldn't need to worry tubby".
But it's irrelevant that he won't be raping Jess! It's the fact that he said anything at all using rape.I'm trying to say it's quite reassuring to know that he isn't even going to rape an MP.
However, humour as we well know is subjective. Regardless of if you or others feel it is in bad taste you aren't the arbiters of who or what people find funny or consider to be satirical or a joke.
I'm content in taking it at face value, reassured that he won't be raping Jess Phillips.
I've said it was used as a tool, he said what he believed what he would achieve by using that wording and sure enough he was right.
100% spot on.Not really appropriate in political situations, though, is it?
He'd have been better to keep the moral high ground and use logic and debate to talk to her about her meeting, not 'jokes'.
He said it because when he tried to engage with media or Phillips he was ignored
