Install new bathtub up against existing wall tiles?

Just want to be sure, are there any pitfalls when installing a bath tub up against existing wall tiles instead of the usual way of installing tiles just above the tub?

I need to raise the height of the tub compared with the old one because the previous installer didn't allow room for floor tiles to properly fit under the bath panel when installing the wall tiles. Obviously, this means the new tub will have go slightly higher than the bottom of the lowest wall tiles, unless I cut the tiles which might be more trouble than it's worth if the break.

Sprogginz, good evening.

I can recall looking at wall tile failure, where the tiles were for some unknown cause, it transpired that the lip of the tile nearest the bath was in fact actually in contact with the top rim of the bath.

if it were me? i would go with the bath rim being above the lowest edge of the bottom row of tiles, but? Consider some form of "Isolation" between the bath rim and any area of tile on the wall.

A thick bead of Mastic used as a sort of a "buffer" so that there is a much reduced chance of any vibration from the bath passing on to the wall tiles

Just a consideration.

Could you cut the bath panel to allow the tub to sit under the tiles? You don't want any movement in the bath and the tiles are part of, along with a solid batten, a means of ensuring that there is none.

Unfortunately no, or rather it wouldn't look nice. It's not a straight panel but a curved one specially made for this bath (I think) with lips at the top and bottom to push inot clips.
