Seen the cost of light bulbs now .....and those stupid low energy ones that don't last and you have to dispose of very carefully !

All because of the EU another reason to leave perhaps someone wants to list low energy light bulbs in his reasons it's good to be in the EU and make it to 99 !

In one breath ( document ) the EU ban some metals because they are toxic and in another document the EU require we change to lamps that are likely to contain the same toxic materials.

Are they really energy efficient and "carbon neutral" when you take acoount of the entire life cycle from raw materials to end of life ( failed lamp ) disposal.

There are claims that for the same level of perceived comfort LED lighting requires a room to be a degree or two warmer than the same room with incandescent lighting.

I think it was Philips Lighting way back in the 1970s who investigated the difference in comfort effect between "cold" flourescent lighting and incandescent lighting.

Leaving the EU, (which I strongly agree to), would not automatically mean we could ditch all the rules and regulations we now have in place. There will not suddenly be the old style lamps back on the shelves or any other 'old regulations' brought back into play. It would simply mean if the EU made a declaration that they would introduce a new law we, as a country outside the EU, would not have to follow it or we could adapt it to suit our needs if we thought it would be beneficial to the majority or to the planet.
Countries all over the world look at the rules and regulations of other countries to see if they are doing something which may be beneficial/harmful if they introduced similar laws.

Tungsten or carbon for the filament, both vey low on the toxicity scale..

Look at the spectrum and then compare with the spectrum of incandescent lamps, especially at the red to infra red area.

Would the move to LED have happened without a push from low energy targets?

I understand the cradle to grave embodied energy argument and maybe there should be more transparency on the issues surrounding the rare earth materials tyat go into these products.

I hated those CLS bulbs and always stuck with incandescent.

However now its moved on to LED technology which now both quite cheap and the dimming and colour temperatures have been solved -whats not to like.

Ive just put in 12no downlighters in a room -8 watts so 96watts total. The old GU10 halogens would be using 600watts.
