Looking for a hammer drill for a lot of granite drilling.
Needs to have 3J impact energy, or there abouts, and be completely servicable.
One I'm using has drilled 30 holes and the clutch has failed.
Recommendations?

What diameter and length of holes are you going to be drilling?

Tools with serviceable brushes I can recommend - but I can't recall ever seeing SDS drills with "serviceable clutches". Why do you need that?

Drill bit I am using is Irwin Speedhammer Plus 14.0 mm x 210 mm.
I am going the full 210 mm in.
I have tried lots of different drill bit brands on granite and the Irwin speedhammer plus is the best I have found. £5.18 each plus delivery.

If anyone knows a better drill bit than this for granite, I'd appreciate knowing.
I'm getting this bit to do about 10 holes, 14 mm diameter, 210 mm deep, before it's finished.
Cost's about 50p per hole.
All of this hole drilling for shim and wedge to split granite rocks into managable size for removal from site.
If anyone knows an easiear way to do this I'd appreciate knowing.
Have been searching for a ring saw and diamond chain saw, but these are too expensive, even used. Cut off saw with diamond blade dosent go deep enough.

Because after drilling 30 or so holes in granite with 14 mm carbite tipped drill bit specially designed for granite, the clutch in this drill failed.
Must have become overly worn after the bit got stuck a few times.

Erbauer sort of says it for me. If you look at any of the professional 3kg or heavier SDS+ or SDS Max drills (e.g. Milwaukee PLH-32XE, etc) you'll find that they come with easily accessible brushes, however the clutches are not that readily accessible. These drills tend to need 110 volt, though, as they are designed for trade use (and come with an appropriate price tag). I think for the task you are looking at I'd possibly consider a pneumatic drill if you can find one, and assuming you have access to a large enough compressor

Have you considered a better quality 2 kg sds drill like the Makita which comes with a three year warranty?

And maybe use a series of smaller sds bits building up to the full size you are drilling.

Thanks for that. We tried building up the bit size from smaller to larger hole. This does not work at all when hammer drilling into granite. What happens is the larger bit edges get stuck in the hole. Probarly part of the reason the clutch failed. On the Ebauer drill when the bit caught the clutch slipped and the motor freely spun. Hefty motor, so thankfuly it did that rather then swing onto a limb. This slipping seemed to wear the clutch right out.

Cheap drill but Screwfix will change it as often as you like .

When returning faulty products (less than 12 months old) to Screwfix or Toolstation, get a full refund and then repurchase the device rather than asking for a replacement- that way you get another 12 months of warranty.
