There are always people who have contrary opinions.

Here's one who was very prominent in the UK media until recently as a climate-change denier

Who to believe, hmmm?

The problem was that BBC producers felt impelled to provide balance, so for every truthful guest, they liked to provide an untruthful one.

Eventually there was an outcry when he was permitted to spout lies without being challenged

Neither free market capitalism nor state effort by governments is willing to drive forward the changes needed.
Capitalism can only do so much. State help needs to intervene, which is why XR is doing what its doing.

We may not like XR but they are only bringing to our attention what needs to happen.
Indeed. Maybe we need to clone David Attenborough to have more people that have the respect and voice that is needed.

The worlds population has trebled in 70 years..........
World population is set to level out. We won't stop the growth that's coming, but as countries develop, the birth rate drops.
Im not a big fan of XR but they have a point.

What you say is true about deaths.....but there again one of the London bridges has been shut for months....all because TfL and the Mayor argue over who pays for repairs....and the bridge is near 2 hospitals
Not aware of XR advocating any violent solutions in terms of population reduction, but if I'm wrong, maybe someone can point to it.

whats the correlation between climate denial and being right wing.

Just to clarify my point related to those criticising the protests in London who are saying the protests will inceease the risk of deaths because people may not be able to get to hospital

I was pointing out that Hammersmith bridge has been shut for ages anyway, and it is close to 2 hospitals. (Durhamplumber can check this, I know how he likes to debate with facts).

For those complaining that they have trouble getting to work because of the protests...

I wonder how they'll manage when the water level rises a small amount and floods the tube?

Another biggie in America is that as many as 40% Americans call themselves creationists, and global warming does not fit in with their religion, so they have to claim it isn't happening. Nothing to do with science - they just try to use the science argument to avoid saying "I don't believe in global warming because God created the Earth 6,000 years ago, and all geology and palaeontology was created by God just to amuse us". America has made it illegal to teach evolution in schools. - correction, some people have tried to make it illegal, and some have fought laws to disallow the teaching of creationism as fact, eg. Kansas State Board of Education changed their science education standards to remove any mention of "biological macroevolution, the age of the Earth, or the origin and early development of the universe," so that evolutionary theory no longer appeared in statewide standardized tests. And Tennessee - April 10, 2012, a bill (HB 368/SB 893) passed in protecting "teachers who explore the 'scientific strengths and scientific weaknesses' of evolution and climate change."

When so many people cannot comprehend the idea of global warming due to being brainwashed since birth, it is very hard to expect them to start listening to a young foreigner with new ideas. And there really is no point in arguing with them.

They are also the ones controlling much of the media on the topic, and criticising environmentalists. They are also the ones in power, running big businesses and generally running America.

All we can do is ridicule them.

Where did you hear this??????:eek::eek::eek:
OK, maybe it didn't become law. but ...

https://www.nytimes.com/1999/08/12/us/board-for-kansas-deletes-evolution-from-curriculum.html

and many accounts: https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2019/09/schools-still-dont-teach-evolution/598312/

and some are trying to help science teachers teach creationism as fact ...
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...er-state-law-evolution-religion-a7632931.html
"Politicians in Texas are considering a bill that would give legal protection to teachers who present Creationism as a scientific theory."

It's a big problem in America. But we're not allowed to talk about it, because you know, religion.

One thing is certain schools teaching or not teaching a subject, a different thing is to twist reality and say that across a continent creationism has been banned.
I don't know the stats, but i wouldn't be surprised if there were more schools in uk that don't teach creationism than in USA.
