Good evening all,

I wonder if any of you are trade professionals and would be able to provide any clue as to what this noise (https://www.dropbox.com/s/w78qv1s02qxy667/IMG_5516.MOV?dl=0&m=) is coming from underneath our kitchen unit?

We’ve recently moved into a blocks of flats which are new build, we are 99% sure the noise is emanating from underneath the kitchen unit (there is a panel underneath it which we can’t access but can slightly see under if we lay on the floor and use a flashlight, we think it’s where the pipes are for the dishwasher(we don’t use it)/sink).

The noise is usually completely random, but can be worsened after cooking.

Any insights would be most useful!

Thanks,
Craig

if you mean the plinth or kickboard (usually 150mm high) it will pull out. Usually attached by clips to the legs of the unit. Sometimes it may be behind the plinth of the other run, in a corner, so you have to pull that out first. It's easier to start pulling at the end than the middle. It pushes back on to re-clip.

You need to look under there for signs of rodents, get that kickboard removed.

Have you got a duct near the kitchen cabinets that runs from one floor to another?

Are your floors and ceilings solid or suspended?

It's the borrowers building a new underfloor house.

Have you recently run a hot tap or the heating come on? It could be pipe work (copper) expanding and rubbing through a tight hole

get that plinth off and have a look.

I agree it resembles the (surprisingly loud) noise I first heard when a mouse dragged the foil wrapper of a chocolate bar into a quiet corner.
