No 10 sitting on Report concerning Russian Interference

Correct.

What do we do with the gullible?

Bojo has lied, undermined the position of PM yet due to the hit job done by the press, its Corbyn who is the danger.

Bojo only tactic is to divide and rule, no matter what people think of Corbyn at least he wants to bring people together.

The manipulated need to be guided, that may sound condescending and infantile but the press and media have not fulfilled their responsibilities here.

Society is splittng when we should bring it together with press controls and controls on Facebook.

Lies need to be eradicated.

Quite right Galahad, the press must be controlled at all costs.

Establishing Control of the Press
When Adolf Hitler took power in 1933, the Nazis controlled less than three percent of Germany’s 4,700 papers.

The elimination of the German multi-party political system brought about the demise of hundreds of newspapers produced by outlawed political parties. It also allowed the state to seize the printing plants and equipment of the Communist and Social Democratic Parties, which were often turned over directly to the Nazi Party. In the following months, the Nazis established control or exerted influence over independent press organs.

During the first weeks of 1933, the Nazi regime deployed the radio, press, and newsreels to stoke fears of a pending “Communist uprising,” then channeled popular anxieties into political measures that eradicated civil liberties and democracy. SA (Storm Troopers) and members of the Nazi elite paramilitary formation, the SS, took to the streets to brutalize or arrest political opponents and incarcerate them in hastily established detention centers and concentration camps. Nazi thugs broke into opposing political party offices, destroying printing presses and newspapers.

Sometimes using holding companies to disguise new ownership, executives of the Nazi Party-owned publishing house, Franz Eher, established a huge empire that drove out competition and purchased newspapers at below-market prices. Some independent newspapers, particularly conservative newspapers and non-political illustrated weeklies, accommodated to the regime through self-censorship or initiative in dealing with approved topics.

It doesn't sound condescending and infantile at all, it sounds positively Third Reichish, and you sound quite insane.
You need to give your head a good shake mate.

The press can have all the freedom they like as long as they stick to facts and not opinion pieces.

Can you name me a western leader with his own paid newspaper column and daily that pushes his agenda?

Thats third Reich for you.

One column in one paper, and you'd stamp that out by controlling the press? haway man, behave.

Press can write about who or what they like as long as they stick to facts. Opinion pieces should be highlighted as such.

Why are you so afraid of facts.

So you cant name me a western leader who is on the payroll of a newspaper.

It raises issues of conflicts of interest.

Well, Tony Blair was porking Rupert Murdochs missus for a while but I don't think he was getting paid for that, Oh, silly me, you mean Boris, well we've all got to earn a living, although columns are just opinion pieces aren't they?

Galahad, there are two types of newspaper, left and right, both are influential, that's the way it is. None of them employ many journalists, the bulk of the 'news' is bought from press agencies or syndicated networks. All have columnists and editorial staff who 'influence' stories to their or their 'owner/sponsors' way of thinking, the Daily Mail for example has made a massive shift in the last year toward the left although few on here seem to have noticed. It was after Paul Dacre retired as editor, some left leaning journalists (one is a friend and occasional customer of mine) were drafted in and some of the more toxic columnists were 'released' from their contracts.

Look, I digress, if a newspaper lies or states falsehoods, they should be made to retract the story and apologise, possibly punished by way of a fine. But 'controlling' the press, 'educating readers', come on, you know that's just plain wrong.

In the context of "The manipulated need to be guided, that may sound condescending and infantile but the press and media have not fulfilled their responsibilities here." no I don't believe we do. But if you feel you do then lap it up.

If people cannot distinguish between fact and fiction because they have been fed opinion then the Press self regulation has failed and they need to be reorganised. Why should a few select owners have so much say in what people think and read?

They can keep onto their media empires just separate the facts from opinion and make it clear which is which. People have no idea even basics.

Why do people fear an informed electorate?

Filly would prefer people are left to be lied to and misled. Very undemocratic.

DIYnot has moderators to monitor fake stuff on this forum and lock threads deemed to be false, when alerted as such. Doesn't prevent filly and his fellow gullible buddies believing them though. The Jo Swinson one will likely crop up again with filly waving his fist in support.

They put the retraction on page 13 in a little piece.

They should put it on the same page they made the false claim.
