Hi all,
I want to build a water catchment system.
The idea would be to fit some guttering (preferably timber) e.g. bamboo around the shed roof and feed it into a down pipe into a water butt.
The reason I'm picking wood is because I want to be more environmental and not buy plastic.
Rather than use plastic fittings, and I wanted to make some supports from off-cuts of timber.
Can anyone suggest an ingenious simple design that I could use to fit the guttering to the roof?

cant do any drawing or even pictures lol
would it help if i described an "L" made from 2x1" laid on top off 2x1" screwed or nailed together that will give you a channel 1" by 2 "
or if you but up 2x1" on to 3x1" will give you a 2x2" channel ??

What about recycled (repurposed) plastic of some description? Have a look round skips, industrial units, building sites. A decent diameter pipe cut length ways would make a gutter. You may even get lucky and find some actual guttering!
I've was lucky in the past and been in the right place at the right time to claim a whole house worth of gutters. Saved from landfill, ideal for a shed, usually just need to buy some clips.
Stick a wanted ad up on gumtree etc.

Or if you want, you can buy metal guttering - cast iron, aluminium, copper etc. Will last a lifetime and be recyclable too when the time comes.

Found some plastic guttering but struggling to find clips that work with the profile of the roof .. help still needed here.. ??

Any tips for fittings for this roof profile mate ?

Post up some photos, maybe you can make some little timber "hangers" for normal gutter clips using some scraps of 3x2 or whatever, or fit a fascia board

Diagram in my first post. It's basic half round guttering I've managed to scrounge. But how to fit it to the roof profile ?

Your happy fitting half round guttering in square brackets cos thats what your link points to?

You're right yes. I haven't looked at the actual product just so far as the profile. What I was really hoping for was something that's more of a hammock profile that the guttering can sit in, like a sling, but rigid obviously

are you looking for a well finished neat and tidy finish or a cheap practical rustic finish ??
