UK Policy of tackling covid through herd immunity

Which just goes to show that @SirGalahad .

However we come through this, China has some serious answers to come up with.

Why ? One of the more simplistic comments I have seen. They behaved in much the same as our Gov have. One big difference they have achieved control. We may or may not. That will become clearer over the next 6months or so.

I think its about the source of the virus -live markets etc.

of course the right wing, Trump etc want to direct the focus on calling it the China Virus to ramp up hatred and hide the failings of our right wing governments in USA and UK

Unbelievable that some people will blame the Chinese.
We eat weird **** too.
Prawns, squid, scampi, pigs, chickens - theses are all pretty weird in some people's eyes.

Besides, these markets have been around for thousands of years.

Viruses happen. We have to learn how to live and survive through them, not blame foreigners for being different. The next one might start in a Bernard Matthews turkey factory.

there are quite a lot of people with an instinctive fear and hatred of foreigners. We see some on here.

This can be stoked up by nationalists like trump, farage, le pen and goebbels for their own benefit.

The interesting factor is that as Corbyn pointed out - only a government can do what they are doing. China is doing a lot of the things he was referring to. Their response to the virus is another example.

The most likely source of the virus so far seems to be a mutation of one carried by bats. It will take a long time to find out where it came from but by all means stick to the original guess if you like. It's China's guess.

China just like Russia gets a lot of bad press some which is no different to what the west has done for the same reason. Bomb hospitals etc. They kill civilians and children we have collateral damage instead. A Russian plane doesn't mean a Russian is flying it.

How trustworthy is the USA when it was hacking senior peoples mobile phones not long ago and probably still are. International politics stinks full stop.

Not about "fear of foreigners", "nationalism"....it is about EVIDENCE. You deride those who pooh-pooh experts, yet choose to ignore experts when it suits your own agenda.

Sh!tty wet markets caused SARS; sh!tty wet market caused CV.

I suggest you refer back to @SirGalahad 's Vox video, on how the Chinese government's policies actively encouraged the conditions that make these zoonoses viable, and perhaps even inevitable.

There's a difference between "weird", and dangerous. Try as I might, I can't get on with mustard, or Marmite, or sweet cider or wine. They're "weird", to me anyway.

I'll give you the pigs; IMHO, eating anything that eats meat itself is "weird".

Besides, these markets have been around for thousands of years.

Have they? In the form that is shown to allow trans-species transmission of viruses?

And if indeed they have been around for that long, well, now we have evidence that they have caused two global outbreaks inside the last 20 years, perhaps we should learn our lessons, follow the evidence, and put a stop to them?

We might however, learn from our mistakes, and not keep creating them, killing many thousands, then trying to mop up the damage afterwards.

The next one might start in a Bernard Matthews turkey factory.

And if it did, I would like to think that we would stop whatever practice caused it (like we did, with BSE).

I think its about the source of the virus -live markets etc.

I thank you for getting my drift, for this.:)

Crap. They are not at all sure where the virus came from and have banned that particular source.

Plus of course when thing go wrong finding some one to blame is the main thing - not the people responsible for top level handling of it. Eg the tower and the fire brigade who were following procedures for a very valid reason. Who's not responsible - the people who wouldn't spend enough to make the building safe. Also fridge and freezer manufacturers that decided to make the backs out of plastic but they are not really responsible for the deaths.

I will go with the evidence so far

There isn't any otherwise various groups wouldn't be bothering to find out where it comes from via dna while they are also using the same thing to get an idea about suitable vaccines.

Plus from your own link
The first known infections from the SARS-CoV-2 strain were discovered in Wuhan, China.[11] The original source of viral transmission to humans and when the strain became pathogenic remains unclear,

RNA.

Your point being?

China have the CV under control because their culture is different to ours. An authoritarian government can order a lock down and the locals dare not ignore it.
The UK is a democracy and no matter how urgent the need, a lock down will be more difficult to manage here as there will be those who will ignore the order and cry 'human rights '.
Spain has already had problems with holidaying Brits who have ignored the order to remain within their hotels. This has forced the Spanish to now close all hotels and told all holiday makers to go home by 27 Mar.
