I ask because I came across 8 bottles of wine in my Dads kitchen cupboard.

The bottles are from 2000 to 2006, all stored upright, at room temp.
Sealed with either real or plastic corks.

Quite a few are from English vineyards.

Will they be drinkable, or horrible?

White or red? Either way under those conditions likely to be well past their best.

There is of course an easy way to find out.

Sanitise your hands with it.

Everyone is assuming a kitchen wall cupboard in a centrally heated house by the sounds of it.
If this is correct then it will probably be rank.
However, if it is in a lower cupboard against an outside wall, or even next to a fridge/freezer, there is a chance that some of it may still be ok.
As Eddie and Crystal have said. Only one way to find out.

7 white, 1 red

I havent opened any because my wife is convinced it will make us ill.

I will open one and try it later in the week.

I thought if real cork bottles were stored upright, the cork shrinks, allowing air in and turning the wine to vinegar

I took a beautiful girl out, who I was keen to impress.
Stupidly with a smug smile the waiter told me the red wine we ordered was a vintage 1999... I spat it out and told him to bring me some new stuff. Now... She was impressed..

The fact that it's English wine would worry me more.. some can be good but generally it's terrible.

Worst case it will smell, and taste terrible. A dose of the trots if you neck it regardless.

Oddly an English wine won a top award recently, I forget which, but as patriotic as I am, I have to agree, English wine is usually quite disgusting
