Fire door casing

Hi. I'm installing door new door linings. I've extended into loft to create bedroom.

I know I have to install fd30 door and casing. Also for bedrooms on first floor.

But do I need to install fire doors and casing for ground floor? Lounge, diner, utility and then will get single story extensiin for kitchen.

All habitable/high risk rooms on the escape route - ie all off the landing and hallway.

I bought following door cases 108mm by 58mm. I don't understand why they are realy chunky. I had to make the trenches too.

Problem I have is due to thickness of frame the opening is 1 inch less on each side compared to normal door casing. Also it's for 45mm doors?

I've fitted 3 altogether and they've taken a while.

I'm now thinking I have been supplied with commercial fire door linings

Looks like you've been given garage door frames.

The 30 minute lining is normally 44mm thick, with a 12mm door rebate and typically rebated for the strip/seal.

That's a frame not a lining/casing. You want one of these...(they have them at Howdens)

Hi. It is rebated on other side with a section for intumescent strip.

On the header it is stamped with fd30. It's a bloody chunky frame. Fitted3 but wish I'd known about the 44mm ones.

It will fit 30 inch door. Opening is 700mm.

What’s the overall issue again then sorry - I thought you were concerned that you wouldn’t find doors to fit the frames. Keep them, crack on and use the linings in future?

I'm not sure if these were meant to be for commercial use since they are very thick 65mm (actual 58mm). I had to cut the header to size and trench them too which was a pain.

The doorway is narrower due to thickness. Just hope I'll get my furniture inside. Yes will keep them for now but will use 44mm ones for rest.

It was stressing me a little so I thought I'd double check with you guys.

Even on a fire door lining, the doorstop tends to be chunkier than a non-fire one so you probably haven’t lost that much clearance compared to a lining.

Now would be the time to change them. They will look crap for evermore otherwise, and that door size .. is that going to limit choice later? Bear in mind that fire doors have very little scope for reducing.

I thought fire doors come in 45mm thickness compared to normal 35mm?
