We should also destroy all Roman statues, remains, historic buildings - obliterate them. Most prolific slave traders in history. I'm affronted that we put up monuments to Romans who may have enslaved my very ancient ancestors.

That is a good point, the difference could be that unlike the Roman slave trade, the fallout from centuries of the black slave trade is being played out on the streets of America and Europe.

Throwing slaves overboard wasn't considered a crime back then.
I read one account of one slave trader who ended up in court for throwing slaves overboard, however he wasn't charged with genocide, he was charged with insurance fraud.
He had insured his cargo of slaves with Lloyd's of London, when some of his slaves got sick he dumped them over board and then tried to claim off his insurance.

So instead of all this accusation of vandalism, absurd arguments about removing all statues, how about a bit of sensible discussion along the lines of Sadiq Khan and Edinburgh.

Along the lines of my earlier comments about re-appraising history in the light of our current comprehension of history and its repercussions, not to re-appraise history means that we will not learn from our mistakes.
More importantly, we are actively denying our children of a fair and balanced education.
And our children are our future leaders.
