you think he needed more?

well, that brings us back to the Stalin question.

Does winning a war excuse all the actions of the leader of a country?

Will you accept that it is possible for a man to have both admirable and despicable qualities?

Yes of course....Churchill was not perfect...Who is...But I think he was instrumental in winning WW2..And whatever spin you and Dazzle wish to place on alternative history, life would not have been good if Hitler had invaded the UK.

if you want to claim that the nations causing 10% of the enemy's losses defeated the enemy, and the nations causing 90% didn't, then you are spinning like an armature.
All I am claiming is the point I made.

Then you are wrong.
Not from the evidence I have seen from you...Same as LAL,you seem to dislike and pull to bits every aspect of life in the UK...Past,present,future,,you exhibit no hope, thanks, pride, anything positive about UK life.

That the USA won it is another of their fictions. It did make them a rather rich country but as you say John the Russians once geared up threw far more at him than he could possibly cope with.

The real thing that won the war was the battle of Britain and outproducing Germany especially with fighters. Hitler couldn't invade after that.

to add, it was the UK who kept the russians afloat in order to defeat the nazi's

every aspect

I am a great admirer of the Supreme Court, as I'm sure you've seen.

I think the NHS has great potential, when it is not hamstrung by political chaos and underfunding.

I think BS1363 is a world-beater

The BBC is a great national asset, though beleagured by politicians who don't like their faults being exposed.

I was impressed by the products of the former British companies, Jaguar Cars, Rolls-Royce Motors, and Bentley Motors.

British lawns are among the best in the world

The London Underground is a work of genius.

nhs underfunded? priceless.
the dumb comment I mean not the nhs.

Your bitterness and anger come through in every post John. I pity you. I can't imagine a life lived with no joy, no happiness, no fulfillment. How sad.

I don't see bitterness in Johns post that you highlighted. I do see someone who's fed up with the really fabulous parts of the UK being eroded by underfunding and cruddy governments. Is that not understandable?

Are people not allowed a point of view? I see many a miserable post here about foreigners, brexit etc, JohnD isn't alone. The whole GD forum is made up of wingers and people who just want to put down others!!!

He handed the turks a victory at Gallipoli with 168k British soldier deaths.

Churchill was the right man at the right time for the UK during the second world war but to forget all his mistakes is being dishonest to his legacy.

I've seen car parks seething with all UK car makes and have known the people who drove them without any of the problems other than cars usually have some day. Mr average cars as well, the ones you mention aren't. Rather old ones were ok price wise. I've been in or driven a number of them. Roots, Triumph, Leyland even Daimler but only very old ones were affordable. Jaguar too and I could have bought a cheap DB5. One of my few regrets :( I bought something else instead.

LOL I've always suspected their demise was some sort of plot. Long before any european cars were about I was given an odd job. Going round and getting details of the batteries in them. Had to go all over the place as dealers were hard to find and a couple of motor shows. I asked why. So few of them about I didn't see why it would be worth producing replacements. I was told that numbers were going to increase and there would be lots of them about. The influx of Japanese came as a surprise. Initially they were seen as a joke. Bit like Korean cars have been in the past. The first car that was worth making a batch of batteries for on a short order line was the Beetle. Peanut numbers. A bit of a mistake was made on fitting hence having to go around getting detail on a number of them. The Beetle batteries would fit so were sold at a reduced price. ;) pos and neg were the wrong way round so the battery had to be swung around 180 degrees to suite. Fortunately it could be.
