Hi all,

As above, we're in a mid terrace with attached garage and plan to knock a hole in the wall between hall and garage to fit an internal door.

The wall is double skinned with a cavity between, and door will be opening INTO the garage.

The total depth of wall including cavity is 240mm so much bigger than most door linings. Have been advised to fit a "normal" set of linings only on the side we plan to hang the door (hall side so it looks nice from in there - don't care how it looks from inside the garage to, to a degree) and use sheet material on the other side to line the rest of the opening.

However, does that pose a problem hinging the door on the side of the opening furthest from where the door opens into?

I hope that makes sense! All help appreciated!

Thanks
Michael

It’s done like that all the time, where you have an internal door in a cavity/9 inch wall. No issue with the door opening either direction. Normally the reveals are boarded and skimmed up to the lining, which has an architrave on the other side if it’s a plastered wall.

It can open either way but it needs to be a self closing FD30S fire door with a 100mm step down into garage or the floor should be laid to fall away from the door, it also needs B Reg permission.

i made and fitted a full width timber liner when i did a similar job for someone as one leaf was built from thermals and disintegrating .

Thanks all.

If the door is to be hinged on the inside wall, but opens towards garage, won't the hinges be the wrong way round? Also does it pose an issue with door fitment / clearance?

Why can’t you fit the hinges on the side closest to the garage and keep everything else the same?

Yeah we can do that, but was kind of hoping to keep it more flush with the hallway wall so it was in keeping with the other two doors in the hall.

Think it's doable?

Fit the lining on the hallway side, and hinge it on the side of the lining closer to the garage, and fit an architrave on the hall side.
