Covid cut #3 for me today. Just another 15 cuts to go until the clippers have paid for themselves

Wish I had taken a few years out...I was far too young at 18 to properly appreciate it.
I went at 23 too

mind you, youve probably had a better career with a proper trade than if youd come out with a 2.1 in "meejia studies"

they are the years to do it, I started work at 16, own business from 18 hardly had a day off, didn't get my first proper holiday until I was late 30s. Sometimes feel that I missed out - but got to retire at 53 so it all sort of worked out in the end.

Combo of both. Haircut round here £6. Clippers bought at height of lockdown so got fleeced (excuse pun)
£15 a time plus a couple of quid tip round here. I’ve had 4 cuts from Mrs Mottie so far (She got a level 2 hairdressing qualification at college about 15-20 years ago and then didn’t pursue it). I’m in need of another one soon. She has her own scissors, uses the dog thinning scissors to thin it out and her bikini trimming razor for my neck hairs. She told me to go to barbers next time but I’ve got used to not paying!

Anyway, today I’ve been piddling about with my house alarm. I smashed the internal sounder when decorating, bought a new one, it wouldn’t work, found it had a duff internal back up battery in the alarm panel, fitted a new one, still no joy. Rewired it so the internal sounder works with the external sounder and it’s all good now.

Mines just a basic buzz cut all over, wouldn't be my choice, but TBH I don't even look in the mirror most days.

I've been clippering the FIL's hair for twenty years now because he too doesn't want to spend the bunce.

Something that always bothers me though...... I do wonder if any DIY barbers miss out on early diagnoses of skin cancers etc, that an experienced barber would have spotted....

Good shout, though many barbers are being trained to try to spot potentially suicidal men, though if you were contemplating suicide, would you bother to get a haircut????

A lot of suicidal people are fastidious in making sure their affairs are in order before they commit suicide. This is especially true of those who truly want to die and are not doing it as a cry for help. An old school friend had been suffering with depression for a number of years and then 'appeared' to be coming out of it during his mid 40's. He'd smartened himself up, had a haircut and shave and had a happier outlook. He began to appear to have put things behind him. After he and his wife went to work one morning he returned home and used the 'car in the garage' method. His wife found him when she came home at lunch time. As they lived in a secluded area out of town there were no nearby neighbours that may have suspected anything. Besides him in the car were tablets, water and alcohol with a hose through the back window. He had also managed to tie his hands to the steering wheel using cable ties. His own teeth marks were found in one of the ties indicating how he had managed to do it. He was one of the most popular lads at school, not the brainiest or always best at sports etc, just one of those guys who was fun to be with and saw the best in people.
