Hi
I've just bought this Panasonic bread maker and tried it out with the French recipe. What a disaster! Like a brick. I tried it with Allison's, Tesco's, and Dove's Farm yeast. I am using strong stoneground flour.
I have used Panasonic for years (different machines) and the loaf has been poking out of the pan, until the last 18 months or more. Now the it doesn't want to know, even with the SD2511.
I have made a basic loaf in a Morphy Richards bread maker which has filled the pan, therefore my simple mind says there's nothing wrong with the flour or yeast!
Help anyone please!!

Im not sure, usually for me any disasters have been due to old yeast.

is it white or wholemeal flour?

what hydration level are you using? -maybe there's too much water

if you are used to bread machines I presume you are keeping the yeast and salt separate?

have you made a loaf with that same flour in another machine? -I ask just in case its actually ordinary flour not strong.

I followed the recipe exactly, the same as I have for years. I am using white strong flour.
This is a brand new machine and I eventually had the same problem with an older one, after many years.
The Morphy Richards machine makes perfect bread, so it surely cannot be the flour or yeast. I am totally confused

I use a Panasonic SD-ZX2522KXC Bread Maker, I had it for about 3 years, I cant say Ive had any problems with it.

It could be a faulty machine, is it mixing the stuff properly?

As far as I know although even a basic white isn't as fluffy as it should be.

You are using the full bake menu aren’t you, not the quick bake? Try some new yeast.

There is only one menu for a French, number 9. As I said at first, I have used 3 different yeasts. Up until about 18 months ago, using a different Panasonic model, the loaf was climbing out of the pan, now it only gets half way in the old model and this brand new one as well.

@ScotGooner Same symptoms as I had - won't cook a wholemeal loaf except on 'Rapid'... Change the capacitor (it takes a while!) from the thread that EddieM posted.
