Artex covering lathe and plaster ceiling

This seems to be a subject that has come up so many times. Moving into an 1850s cottage the bathroom ceiling is artex covered lathe and plaster, the ceiling is water damaged from the roof leaking (will be fixed before I start anything) so it has to come down, I also want spots and a ceiling fan.
I know there are risks that the artex may contain asbestos but my plan is use suitable mask with disposable overall, wet everything down, try to get the artex off and double bag and then rip the lathe and plaster off and bag. The bathroom is fully tiled with vinyl floor so can be washed down after. Then plan to shower with the overall on to wet it before then removing and carrying on with the shower. Other than don't bother and get the professionals in is there anything I've missed from this.

I will get the artex tested and I've also got it on the kitchen walls so will test that, the test is so cheap it would be daft not to check.

There appears to be so much conflicting advice regarding this, artex contains very little asbestos so the risk is low through to torch the house and start from scratch.

My local council issue the correct bags for asbestos and will take the waste at the household waste centres.

test it first..... I very rarely pull it down personally . nor do I remove lath and plaster , which in my opinion is just as damaging to your health.
I always go for the overboard option if possible.

I'll look at this as an option, the main reason for thinking of pulling it down is I can see it has bowed down where the damp has come through from the roof. but once the house is mine I'll be able to investigate more.

No asbestos in artex after 1990 ish. They say 2000 as left over bags could of been used but I never seen any after 1987 ish.
If its hard and looks like it's had sugar mixed in and not creamy, and pattern may have sharp spikes like a knife point that will draw blood, that's not a good sign and may have asbestos in. The artex looks like sandpaper I bit is what I mean with the added sugar look about it.
Get tested though..

They just pull those down. Oh what a mess though. You go digging the lot could fall
