Hello, Ive had a quote for some double glazing and noticed that some of them have the "not guarenteed due to height" footnote. The windows are 1.5m high. Ill speak to the factory to see what the max is with a guarentee. Bt thought id see if anyone has an opinion on this first.
Cheers

It's not uncommon, It's usually because the sash weight x width exceeds the specified capacity of the friction stays.....assuming side hung casements

What type of windows are they?

I.e. Stormproof upvc, flush upvc, welded or mechanical jointed (if flush)

Thanks for comments. Ive copied some details from the quote. Wouldnt mind your opinions on quality from these specs. They're from whiteline.
I hope this is enough detail?.

What exactly is not guaranteed?

No-one can opt out of any statutory obligation to guarantee the quality of the material or workmanship of products and services.

If they don't want to guarantee their work then they should not offer to do it in the first place.

I agree with this. I recall years back we were getting quotes for double glazing. I wanted a single opener tilt & turn in my bedroom. The salesman when doing his preliminary measurements advised the cavity width was possibly just outside their accepted tolerances for tilt & turn in relation to the height and I might need to opt for 2 x openers with central bar. In the end they did the 1 x opener for me (maybe to ensure we went with them) but I had quite a lot of issues with it, kept dropping and needing re-packed. Was obviously that bit too long width wise. Was never fully resolved.

My point is they advised of their maximum tolerances and advised an alternative design might be required. Surely this should always be the approach instead of saying 'we'll build/install it for you but not guarantee.' Seems strange and surely gives them an 'out' if any issue arises with the window even if not related to the size.

I'll let you know when I speak to them about the guarentee or lack of it. I have been told this before by a different company when i wanted a glazed door that was a bit wide.

the reason is as I thought, they use a cotswold egress friction stay, spec here:

SOLD AND PRICED PER PAIR

This friction hinge is easy to operate through to the easy clean mode, all from the handle. Suitable for non-manhandling sash, with full opening to 90 degrees.

  • PER PAIR, non handed
  • Manufactured in the UK
  • Conforms to BS6375 112
  • Side hung
  • Easy Clean facility
  • For fire exit windows
  • Avaliable in 12" or 16"
  • Max vent Weight 18kg for 12 inch, 21kg for 16 inch
  • Max vent height 1200mm for both sizes
  • Max vent width 600mm for both sizes

I am assuming you want a 1500 high window with no fanlight?

Thought id do an update as I said I would. I spoke to the girl at Whiteline about the lack of guarentee. The window she brought up was top hung (ive asked for side hung also) She said its 15mm too high :). 1485 must be the max. She said we can do an add on :). I think i'll bump the top course of bricks up as its being rendered.I asked about side hung she said she'll have to look it up.
