Afternoon all.

I have a capped gas pipe in my living room from where the previous owner disconnected an old gas fire. It's capped a just above floor level but I would like it to be capped below floor level so I can put a carpet down without having a gas pipe sticking up through it!

Are there any issues with capping this below floor level or is this job as straight forward as it sounds to a layman? :D

Anyone know how much would I expect to pay at London prices?

Thanks

1. It should really be followed back to the point of origin (e.g. tee in another gas pipe), and terminated there. For example a tee on another pipe replaced by a straight coupling.
2. As denso13 says, price depends on ease of access. Expect to pay £80 to £100 per hour, or more if you use a "rapid response" service. If it's easy to access then 10 minutes pre-job to test for gas tightness, say 10 to 20 minutes to cut the pipe and fit the cap and then another 10 minutes to test again. Minimum 30 minutes, but you'd probably be charged the hour as a minimum / call out.

In the real world,Why prat on potentially turning it into quite a difficult long job..Just cap it under the floor instead of chasing it around the house.
