I don't think they should have paid out that much, but I don't know what equation you would use to work out the value of one's life.
I don't really feel sorry for the guy or his family, he wasn't a nice bloke. However I don't believe he should have died the way he did with a cop kneeling on his neck.

Perhaps whoever gets it will quickly pay it back out to all the businesses that were destroyed and looted in the riots by the supporters of George?

I make you right.... The cop seemed to me to.be a nasty git. Two horrible gits not on the streets now. Hate bent coppers as much as someone who would hold a gun to a pregnant woman's belly.
Explain how George was culpable please?
Don't overthink the amount. Americans are not like us but with a funny accent. It's a very foreign land there...
Don't worry about that. Just standard thinking is a struggle for poor Nosey. More likely to underthink.

A general formula would be lost potential earnings and the trauma and mental damage. 2-3m tops. IMO
