Thats an average figure.
How about the higher and lower claims.

Once again you use figures to make an assumption.

A pointless statistic. That's the trouble of using the mean average as joe just has.

What are the other measures of dispersion (modal and median averages, ranges, interquartile measures etc). What are the outlying extremities?

Simple example - 10 people work in a factory. 9 get £100 per week, the tenth (fatcat owner) gets £9100. This gives an "average" pay of £1000 per week. As stated, a pointless calculation without further details.

Ahh there we go, all defensive.

As I said its no good saying all got £79k.
What was the building complex worth in Tottenham ?
45million? Just an educated guess to rebuild and refurb, along with the private rentals/hotels for the homeless.

So that makes a £79k for all look a bit wrong does it not?

Nowhere near that. Not only that - most was covered by insurance.

Can you prove both of those comments?
If the insurance companies knew it was being paid elsewhere as per usual they would refuse as it is a double indemnity.

Add on the wording of the article - "could hit £300 million"?? It could hit anything at all (possibly £10 if you like  ) - it's purely speculation. Shared between "more than 3800 claimants" - there are a lot of numbers in the world "more than" 3800.

And as previously stated, such a calculation is worthless anyway without other measures.

It's your tax dollar they are ripping off. Wish they'd have one around here - I'd love a big claim. £79K for a broken window. FFS,

It also says in the article that prison inmates will swell by 1000, by next year (this is on top of those already in prison for rioting). They've been telling us for years now that prisons are full... Well Mr Cameron, fancy ordering a few new prisons to be built to house these new criminals? Nahh we'll go for the care in the community approach matey. No doubt they've learnt their lesson , by waiting months before their trials ,,, ain't they?

F,,, in idiotic parliament.. Just like Nu Labour,,"Tough on crime, and tough on the causes of crime." ,,,,,,, NOT. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Why should the taxpayer pay any of the riot damage? That's what they have insurance for.

Two follow-on questions then:

1. Why should all the innocent people who pay insurance premiums have to pay for the damage? Premiums will increase to compensate for the claims, so they will end up paying. Including those who weren't affected by the riots at all.

2. What about those who don't have insurance to cover the damage caused?

If you want to look at what is right and just, then those responsible for the damage should be the ones to pay for it.

But if, as seems to have been the case in some places, the police were under orders to just stand by and watch instead of doing the job they're supposed to do, should they also be held responsible in part, since the damage would not have been so great and extensive had they intervened?

People can come up with statistics to try prove everything. 14% of people know that - Homer Simpson

Amen
