Replacing older radiators with newer radiator

Hi

In the process of updating my very old single panel rads with new doubles.

Had the downstairs ones but now
Thinking of moving these to replace the ones in the upstairs bedrooms (more or less same sizes) and
Then getting new type 22 doubles for downstairs.

Assuming this is an easy enough job
For a plumber?!

Going from type 21 to type 22 will require alteration of the pipes to allow fitment as they are quite a bit thicker.

It's not to bad going from single panel to type 21, most the time you can get away without pipe work mods.

However for a plumber it's his bread and butter so wouldn't take them to long I'm sure.

Why not leave the downstairs rads alone & just buy new for upstairs- they're cheap enough. Labour will be per rad....
Are you using heat loss calcs to determine rad size or just chucking them in cos they fit?

Not necessarily, each ones different, depending on how it's been piped. More often than not, if it's fed via the floor, there's enough play in the pipe and all it needs is the floor slotted a bit further.

Heat loss calculations - every room loses a certain amount of heat per hour calculated @ kw/h (btu/h) the radiators should be sized to be able to replace that amount of heat per hour, that way their output is sized correctly for the room they're in.
