Morning all ,
Any advice/feedback gratefully received!
Builder fitted 3 x internal doors ….
So chap coming back to finish them today and I’m guessing he’ll say – well the frames were wonky… but even with my limited DIY skills – I managed to fit one before, admittedly it took me ages and was a massive faff and took a lot of planing and refitting, planing and refitting, but I really didn’t know what I was doing – but… it now fits dead on to a tricky frame and looks good, so obviously the lure of somebody doing them all quickly and who would do them right was very enticing….
As you can see the but this this one in partic is a prob, the gap and the way it doesn’t follow he line of laminate – I think he’s got a circular saw to it with a straight cut to the top, which has left the top rail visibly wonk, A 10 mm diff from right to left and in my eyes sort of robbed Peter to pay Paul by trimming the top now having a large gap at the bottom. Would it not have been better to plane the bottom incrementally? My wife wants a new door, can’t say I disagree, if so thats 120 quid down.
Door linings seem pretty flimsy too. And some screws in wonky.
Like I say on not saying I’m an artisan, wish I was, but personally Id step back and think – ok here’s the door, here’s the wonky frame, theres the line of tiles – ok so how can I best make this fit and look good – rather than than bosh - well I’ve fitted that door supplied into that frame – so it is what it is… I always think, would they have made more effort in their own house? I’m guessing yes.
Am I expecting too much? Genuine question. I Paid 150 but id have paid 250 to get them done exactly to my requirements. Can’t help feeling they wanted to get ‘em done quick and the result was indeed fitted doors – but yknow, not really with the care id have done ‘em, even if I had lost the rest of my hair in the fitting!
So far they’ve been great lads with the other work they’ve done for me but this is a real disappointment – can’t help feeling they’re rushing a bit now.
What do you think?
