Hi everyone.

I have an old 1980's computer. The power lead appears to be a moulded .75mm flex that feeds into the power supply and is connected on L and N using a female spade connector, the earth is a ring. The computer is fused at the plug with a 3amp fuse. It's damaged and I want to replace the whole thing with a new flex which I have purchased. I find it odd the new one comes with a 13 amp fuse but will swap for 3 amp.

I bought a new crimping tool which came with the red, blue & yellow but only red female spade with no insulation and they look flimsy... can anyone tell me whether there is a better source of decent quality connectors that are better for this usage? I can't seem to find any anywhere. They all seem to be automotive.

Thanks

Graham

My personal recommendation would be to solder the spades on to the new cable. I have seen too many, even well-made crimps with good quality ratchet tools, fail!

Go to your local car motor factors and ask them, they generally carry large ranges of stuff like this.

BTW, after looking around I am amazed at the number of suppliers like screwfix, b&Q, toolstation et all that do not carry insulated crimps.
