I want to connect my router in back bedroom to the living room, both on same side of building, running internally will not be easy, but external would just need 20meters of cable,

any suggestions for best cable and where to get it from, I have looked on the rain forest, but get put off by reviews, just want a cable that works and is fast, as have 1 gig broadband

All I found out when I did mine was not to get CCA or CCS cable. That’s copper clad aluminium or copper clad steel. You need solid copper. Oh, and make sure you get external cable, not internal stuff.

There's some ready made 20m solid copper ones on Amazon if you’re not planning on using boxes and doing the connections yourself.

On top of the above advise, avoid the cheap nasty stuff which is just an ordinary length of grey PVC cable, which has had a PolyEthylene jacket extruded over the top, like this...

It is very thick, very stiff to work with and wants to remain coiled.

The good stuff has a black PE jacket, straight over the twisted pairs without the PVC. If the cable has the transparent polyester wrap around the pairs first, for extra protection, then that's good, just like BT dropwire cable.

Unfortunately near impossible to tell on Amazon/eBay what it actually is just from the pictures. They might hide the grey PVC layer by the way it has been stripped, or they are just using a stock image. You're going to have to just message a load of sellers for a full spec of what they are selling, or find a local independent electrical shop who sells it by the metre and ask to see it first.

Thanks guys pretty much what i had thought, a bloody minefield!!!

i had my sights set on this stuff

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06VX...olid=16IEACDNQL5YJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

but then the last review crawled in stating the cores kept snapping! not good, it would be ideal having it all terminated, but was going to reterminate on sockets so i didnt need bore! holes in the brick wall for the cable to come thru,

Assuming they weren't using a really bad technique or had stripped the outer sheath so violently they had partially cut the inner cores, then, unfortunately, snapped cores is a common problem with CCA cable in particular, despite how much that seller claims theirs isn't.

Did you actually want Cat6 BTW? Cat5e is good for 10Gig over that short distance.
