extending lighting cable - limited room

Hi

I made some mis-calculations when running my lighting cable and need to extend the cable by about 1 metre. I have some decent connectors (wago etc) but I have no room to place a wago junction box becasue the cable runs under a steel beam with little room. I can get the cable connected but no room for a JB. What are my options?

Extend the cable using through crimps, stagger them so you can use heat shrink to cover the connection which will keep it thin enough to pass through the space that you have. You'll need to buy a proper ratchet crimp tool if you don't have one or borrow one from someone who does.

No. I just looked at those and the gap is only a few mm.

Yes. I have all of the above and it sounds like a good shout given the little room I have.

Not really. It's got about 6metre run down lintel up walls, it would make a right mess. It's my own fault!

Rather than having the joint underneath the steel, can you make a hole where the 'side' of the steel would be (do they call this the webb?)

Assuming the steel is H shaped (on it's side!), there would be be room for a maintenance free junction box.

I have thought about this , it's a possibility but it means a fair bit of cutting and notching through the timbers I put on to screw the plasterboard onto and the timber is just roofing lath and might destroy when I drill/ cut it!
