Just a DIYer myself, but i found the 887 quite good to control using the 3 speeds , even for small screws in hinges etc

Also just make sure it is brushless , if that's what you are after, When i first started investing in Dewalt, i got caught thinking that XR also meant brushless, which a few friends in the trade also told me and said, and it doesn't. I'm now the owner of a few Brushed XR cordless tools, Jigsaw, circular saw etc
But as a DIYer , I would not expect the brushes to wear out, and I'm not on any timed jobs, so I can wait for a battery to recharge, although I have 5 batteries (Different Ah provided in kits ) , so not been an issue yet.

I was also looking to upgrade to the 996 combi drill , but when i held one at a show i thought it was quite heavy , so got a SDS drill instead for the heavy work. May still get to a 996 , but so far my combi drill that came with a couple of batteries seems to do OK on the demands i put it through. even drilling 12mm holes right through brickwork, BUT when i came to do all the rest of the post and have to drill the holes i had the SDS which went through very easily. I actually got a corded model , and with a normal chuck, which i have used as much as the SDS chuck so far

I have also noticed a lot of "out of stock" , with Dewalt and long lead times , and very few deals at the moment, prices seem to have gone up quite considerably over the last year.

Impact driver is a specialist tool in my opinion and definitely not needed by most people, and if using it regularly just to put screws in, which a normal 18v cordless drill will do a lot quieter and won't have the same adverse impact damage on your wrists. By the way what is a pole saw?

BTW, I recently purchased the Metabo 12v brushless drill and brushless impact driver. I work in domestic properties and given that so many people are still working from home, I don't imagine that I am going to use the impact driver any time soon (because of the noise). I have never previously owned an impact driver and was taught to use clearance and pilot drill bits. Until I drop that habit, I get the impression that using the drill as a screwdriver will be faster for driving in screws.

Have you seen the Wera bit holder handle which has a 4 :1 multiplier gearbox? Turn the handle one revolution and the bit does 4 revs. Even quieter than a drill/driver

I guess I started using impact drivers when I was helping a friend do shop signs. It was great to drive tech bolts (tech screws) through sheet metal and extrusions.

A part of me me bought this as I needed batteries for the pole saw (one of these). I figured 2 batteries and a charger would cost me around £120+ so the impact driver just cost me £60 or less.

The kits with the combi drill I want, DCD996 with 2 batteries is almost £300.

Can't go wrong with dewalt or Makita. I use Dewalt at work, and they take a lot of abuse and keep going and going. My personal tools are all Makita as I got a good deal on a big kit, and they have been brilliant.
