He should have refused to pay and told the plumber to sue him, can't see any court siding with the con man plumber.

Maybe this plumber uses gold plated pipe or something.
How would it take £288 quid in parts to repair a leak.
If the customer has been overcharged for parts wouldn't that be a criminal offence.

Not rip people off like our Iranian friend but even the “honest “ firm said this should of cost £260 and taken about an hour. I don’t charge anything remotely near that !!!! Why should I work my balls off every day, when I could be earning 4 or 5 times as much being a bit more ruthless.

That's fair enough for thst time of morning.

Emergency work is more. And fair enough. Thst sort of job on a Tuesday afternoon I'd be charging £120.00 first hour £75 after that.

That sort of job 7pm I'd be charging £150 to make safe or simple repair.

After 8 £180

After 10 £200

Good Lad Andy. I have neighbours in their 70s trying to replace the gutts of his bath taps. Too old and too tough to do.
We replaced his taps and waste on a cast iron bath. Took ny mate most of the day.

Charged them nothing. They have two grandchildren that live with them both 10 & 11 years old. Their parents are druggies

He could have for sent for the police and get him removed.
The payment /or non payment of the bill would be a civil affair i think.
The plumber could then sue him for non payment if he wished.
