Boiler question

Is there any point in paying £300 on a 10 year old boiler? Would I be better off getting a new boiler?

Depends on how tight things are.

If you've got the extra minimum of a grand then just replace it.

But his alone might not fix your problem if there is a hole in the pipework somewhere

When you are going out all day, turn power off to boiler.VERY IMPORTANT.
With boiler (heating) cold & pump not running, repressurise to exactly 1bar. (Take photo of p gauge) fully close flow & return isolation valves. Leave it. Check again when you come home, compare gauge with photo. If it’s dropped, it’s the boiler.

Dangee, I tried it today. It dropped from 1.5 to 0.

Check if water is constantly dripping from condence pipe (white plastic) when boiler is not on but under pressure. If yes, change the boiler. If no, it must be the pressure relief cartridge letting by.
Awkward but cheap repair.

No dripping on the pipe.

Which pipe? The white plastic one or the discharge pipe which runs outside?

We're trying to determine if the pressure drop is due to the safety valve leaking (the copper pipe) or the main boiler heat exchanger leaking (the white plastic condensate pipe).
So locate the plastic pipe from the boiler and see if your can easily see whether it's constantly dripping.

Is it combined inside?

Yes, it is a combi boiler.

Gasguru, the boiler is in the bathroom on the first floor. From my garden, I can only see the copper pipe coming out of it. Is the plastic pipe the Flue?
