Is the May 17th reopening a mistake?

Yeah, I think you said that already. No need to keep telling us. As somebody else mentioned, we are all capable of independent thought, just happens most people come to the conclusion that getting the vaccine is the right thing to do. Let's hope you have made the right decision, the second year of this pandemic could still be worse than the first.
Baah!...

Who knows if you've made the right decision?

And based on what evidence?

why do you keep asking the same question?
Maybe you are the one being fooled, what evidence do you have that you have not been brainwashed by antivaxxers?

1.3 billion covid vaccines have been given
hundreds of billions of other vaccines have been given

are billions upon billions of people dying because of it?

I would have preferred the 14th or 15th if I'm honest,

Same! My son was 18 on Monday. He loves a Sunday lunch so I’ve booked Blacklock which does a damn good Sunday Lunch but the first Sunday is the 23rd. Shame it wasn’t 16th.
Blacklock, meat lovers paradise. Plus cocktails for a fiver!

It's going to be carnage. Millions of 20-30s will hit the pubs and clubs when they open, it'll be like the roaring 20s all over again.
We'll probably have another syphilis epidemic like we had in the 1920s

UK cases of Indian coronavirus strain more than double
UK cases of an Indian variant of coronavirus have more than doubled in the past week, according to Public Health England data.

Figures published on Thursday evening show there are 1,313 cases of the VOC-21APR-02 variant in the country, up from 520 the previous week, PA reports.

Dr Susan Hopkins, COVID-19 Strategic Response Director at PHE, said: “Cases of this variant are rising in the community and we are continuously monitoring its spread and severity to ensure we take rapid public health action.
So, a new variant that's leading to increasing numbers of infections despite the current level of controls applied. But people are really looking forward to relaxing indoors and seeing family again, so we ignore it and hope it'll go away because applying restrictions is hard on Boris.

We already did this one in November and December 2020. For a change could we for once take a cautious approach? Just once?

How have we still not learnt that the only way to deal with pandemics is to treat them as a worst case immediately, because trying to fix it later is incredibly difficult and far more damaging both economically and in lives lost?

Restrictions aren't hard on Boris, they're hard on the economy, they're hard on people who need to work to survive and aren't getting generous benefits for not working, they're hard on schoolchildren, they're hard on people who need medical care that's not covid related, they're hard on people dying from cancer, they're hard on peoples mental health, they're hard on so many people.

They aint hard on Boris.

More and more people I know have been forced to go private because the heroes at the nhs have refused to treat anything non covid.
Unless it's something that is going to kill you in the next 12 hours, i.e. heart attack.
My niece has been on the waiting list to have her tonsils out since October.
Her dad is taking her private, to a ent doctor of the same hospital.
What a f#cking disgrace!

That's bad. Same with GPs these days, the shutters went down spring last year, and they're still down. Hear a lot about saving the NHS, but maybe they're there to save us.
