The reason for the withdrawal goes back some time and even involves Trump but others will have been working in the same direction. The Taliban just like any political group has it's leaders. They have been to the table - surely people remember talk about this. They have agreed certain things. One not harbouring terrorist organisation ISIS etc. Mention of women still being able to get education and other similar things. Pundits are saying it's a wait and see situation. The Taliban did instruct their troops not to enter the capital and they haven't so some hope.

So no more terrorist organisation there - job done.
Sadam - invaded another country - job done. Oil ??
Gaddafi - job done

The other point is Afghanistan isn't like it was before they went in so not wasted in that sense either.

Migrants. Always a problem. There can be need or it can be purely looking for a better life. I am not going to bother sorting out what Rory said but suspect it's a political way of saying we must do something but it can involve millions of people and that can also be a problem.

Then consider international politics which I think generally stinks, often one lot getting at another lot. Media frenzies. The politics will be looking for a solution. Some may suffer. Huge numbers of people suffered in the 3 events above but that didn't stop them from doing it. Embargoes often cause populations problems but they still use them.

Millions fleeing Afghanistan does not equate to millions arriving specifically in the UK. In fact very few refugees end up in the UK compared to other countries.

Ideally he would arm himself, preferably with a fully automatic gun, and head down to Dover to sort them out, but on the way get arrested with no fuss and nobody hurt.

Sounds like the Taliban has the Berlin wall problem - too many people leaving so are telling all / some to get back to work as they go to the airport. They need a whole range of people for the country to function just as the Russians did. Many were leaving for more money - higher paid jobs doing the same thing.

In cities where they have been for a while girls are still at school. They are clearly letting the media in even a female Afgan lady interviewing a senior Taliman on Afgan TV.

Will it last. Many Talitroops on show in the capitalnow but just on show. One problem is that some Talitroups have probably only experienced being at war and there could be factions. These may start shooting each other. Maybe there is a Taligood and a Talibad or Talidontgive2f's.

The UK man actually carrying the evacuation out reckons up to 7,000 but a fluid situation. Politician's playing the numbers game, I'll take more than you but I'd have thought circumstances are likely rule.
