Afghanistan -is leaving the right thing?

There was some interesting analysis in the US media, that Pakistan basically enabled the Taliban to return. Maybe its deflection, but I don't think Biden realised they would take over so rapidly. Unless the Taliban are very smart and limit their regime to more moderate policy, all the hard work done to give Afghans some freedom will be rapidly undone. Many moderates don't think the Taliban hold back and eventually the US will have to re-think its strategy, if they want to stay leader of the free world.

Have you seen the Afghan Army?

Let the Taleban rule - they will find out that ruling is a lot harder than fighting and winning.

So you admit the 'refugees' swarming in are likely to be foot soldiers?

I don't think you need to worry much.

It's 20k over 4 years and these will be the ones as part of the ARAP scheme who helped the Brits. It's more than likely the ones who get out now will be the few thousands as by the time the Taleban take over those people will either have fled or gone underground.

China has plenty of money maybe they will have a go. China having interests there has been mentioned but would be wouldn't it. This sort of thing is always going on. Russian this and that for instance - it doesn't mean that it is a Russian using it just that the arm came from Russia. Some other lot may be armed by the west - not always the right lot in both cases. Insurgents are getting cleverer as well. The Syria for instance. Certain things shown on TV are now known to have been stage managed by them. Problems all over the place are sect based ;) even here - they aren't British etc.

Pakistan if I remember correctly and am pretty sure I am is a place where people can have any gun they like made to order. Sort of cottage industry. The entire Indian content has flair ups in places from time to time sect based that don't hit the news. At odd times I have heard about them from people I worked with who are Asian. That area has it's own nukes as well.

Translators - if the Taliban wants to be part of the modern world they will need fluent ones. Women - allow them to be educated. Terrorists - not allow them to build up. Forced come arranged marriages - it goes on elsewhere as does women's dress code etc.

Their idea of law ??????????? Religion. Tricky thing to change and problems in that area true not as severe even exist in the UK. If some one has been bought up to believe something or the other it's hard to change.

Do people really think that the USA is still the dominant power in the world. Personally I don't think that is so clear any more. One power they do have is financial aid - in many cases that means accepting their foreign policy. ;) Actually some have thought we fit into that class even just to keep the gov's borrowing rates low but arms may also figure in it.

"Taliban will be judged by it's actions not words - PM"

I have a feeling that borisconi wouldn't like the same sentiment applied to him and his corrupt chums...

And how many weapons have the UK sold to countries around the world who care not for civilian casualties?

The West likes to lecture whilst also profiting from wars!

Are you saying this whole shebang was to benefit the arms industry by throwing £Million Dollar missiles at tribesmen wearing £1Dollar sandals???

Boris is getting the Biden treatment even though he mentioned keeping the UK there was impossible once the USA left. Same noises about the situation as in the USA. I see them as noises because they don't do anything about the current situation. All knew it was coming so rather late and troops I think have been pulled out over a period of time. One MP had a carefully written speech to read out. Politics pure and simple, pure show.

The initial aim to get 7,000 out quickly has dropped to 5,000 but the guy who is actually doing it mentioned that the Taliban is helping in some respects and co operating. 20,000 total over X years. It seems the Taliban is in crowd control mode maybe helping keep things sensible in the actual airport so obviously there are crowds outside and going on yesterday some are simply being told to go home and back to work. Also crowds at an embassy. Their economy is still functional, shops etc at least.

The man who runs the Afghan bank came on and mentioned things that the west may do that will cause their economy to crash. No aid, asset freezing etc. He's sure that will happen.

Loads of Taliban leaders have returned from exile in Qatar.

House packed, some masked and seems they will be there all day. Be interesting to see if there is an MP covid spike.

Sacre' Bleu.

Are you saying that Qatar is a harbour of terrorists???

Do you actually know what you are saying, or do you think we don't???

Are you saying that Qatar is a harbour of terrorists???

That is what the report said. As I have mentioned international politics stinks and us lot seldom really get any clues as to what is actually going on or why.

For Trump and co to talk to them they have to be available and these are leaders how many of those fight - and also live like the rest of us do anywhere.

Just Trump. I doubt it. There has been many mutters for some time that troops don't sort things out, the table and talks do.

Also a protest from locals of sort waving the Afghan flag - just shots in the air by the look of it from Taliman. Holding press conference, being interviewed on TV by a Afghan women. Telling some western groups there that they can stay and no problem. Has to be said that so far it looks different.

They did have an actual fighter on. One of Bin's friends. Split with him over involving terrorist groups. He looked fairly westernised.

Not sure you have the stats to back yourself up.

So are a member of the Army?

Are the Taleban fighting for their country?

I think Pakistan has taken 1.5 million of Afghan refugees and Turkey about 3.6m

Are you on crack?

No, that was my opinion.
Pakistani intelligence and army have been supporting and training the Talibans for years. FACT.

Sorry if mentioned earlier in the thread. Reports on tv prog last night that the actual number in the Afghan army was vastly over-reported. Also questions now being raised about where all the money was going that was supposed to be for building and supporting their army and associated defenses. No doubt more than a few have significantly lined their pockets over the past 20 years.

It makes me laugh that groups like the Taliban are so insistent they're right on every level, however if it wasn't for foreign aid (from countries they despise) they'd be stuffed as it accounts for the high majority of their annual budget.

We hate the west and everything you stand for!!! emmm, but we'll take your cash thanks.
