Afghanistan -is leaving the right thing?

But that opinion is clearly based on you neither reading nor understanding the general point being made by Jonahan Powell, so probably not worth much.

what like the war against Japan in 1945 ???

or the Tamil Tiger conflict war in Sri Lanka ?

or may be the Biafran war ? In Nigeria ?

Or you kill the men with the guns.
Off you go then - Im sure you have tactics which will work to deliver a successful implemention of that strategy which the USA were never able to implement with 20 years to do it and trillions of dollars to spend on it.

Do let us know how you get on, and if you at any point ever change your mind and decide that all the evidence of history is right after all.

If there is no will to fight terrorism the only alternative is to talk to them.
The driving force behind terrorism is the prospect of success.
The terrorists know that the west no longer wants to get involved in foreign wars.
Ordinary people place more value on their kids lives than in times gone by, and when the come back in a body bag from some foreign war, the public start to question why their armed forces are there in the first place.
According to one well known general the solutions to the type of unconventional warfare used by insurgent/ terrorists just isn't acceptable to liberal democracies.
One example was the Boer war, where Britain only won because they rounded up the civilian population and put them into concentration camps, this type of behaviour probably wouldn't be acceptable today.

When the Syrians went into the Lebanon in the 80s they were threatened with suicide bombers

they invoked the threat to bump off
Any one related to the suicide bomber ??

China had a massive drug addict problem when Mao came to power

think he sorted it by bumping off all the addicts

Kim il Jung sorted any potential COVID issues probably had any carriers bumped off

any one caught trying to cross the border into China or from China back to North Korea was also bumped off

The ones I heard about were in a war lord type area that Taliman just conquered. They had to fight to do that. The area is well known for having that problem. Propaganda on all sides who ever they are figures these days but they don't seem to have thrown all western reporters out.

C4's roving reported that is there had a bit of a problem finding anything bad to say tonight other than Tailnice is around and clearly on display but everybody is worried about what they will or may do. Also suffering - no money etc. She didn't point out that the west has frozen all of their assets knowing it would do that. They currently aren't getting the aid needed to allow them to run the country as it should ideally be either. Makes me wonder why 20 years couldn't have set up some sort of economy. Seems the country does have assets.

It's all more or less speculation at the moment. Time will tell and yes there is a need to worry but fact they generally haven't had much to do with terrorism themselves only allowed some groups to stay there. That resulted in a split between the Taliban leaders.
