How to attach thermostat to boiler?

Hi there, first timer here so hi!

I've just moved into a new house and the landlord says there isn't a thermostat, there isn't even a timer on the boiler so each time I get up I need to switch the boiler on and off manually - which is a nightmare!

Thing is, I think I have all/most of the components which is confusing me and wanted a bit of advice to hook this up to either a thermostat or at least a timer, After the random snow flurry the other day the kids quivering "I'm cold daddy!" is starting to tug the heart strings!

I have a boiler:
Glow Worm Ultimate 3 30c

There's a thermostat that was clearly plugged into an old boiler:
Boss Therm BR1

And the remote that's compatible with the thermostat.

Is there anyway, either including this kit (or something else, Hive?) I can get this up and running?

The existing stat was probably disconnected due to not working
It's a re badged Siemens were known for failed receivers.
Looks like you have everything you need for replacement so Hive would work.
I would check with a multi meter but looks like earth live neutral the 2 wires on blue connector block stat switch wires.

Sorry, just to clarify:

That cable comes from the Boss therm device, not the boiler itself. I don't believe it's connected to the boiler in anyway at the moment.

How would I go about hooking up to the boiler?

Where does the cable that exits the boss therm terminate? Is it the connector blocks?

If you are going to put in your own timer/stat, make sure you keep the old one and take pictures of the set up. The arsehole renting you the gaff will probably try to stiff you on the way out, much like he's stiffing you on the way in.

I'd also be very clear to him that you do this with his express knowledge.

Anyway just buy a cheap timer and wire it in using the instructions. Ignore the receiver. Leave it where it is.

A std timer has power to it (L,N,E) and a switched (timed) live to the boiler live.

The thermostat just sits between the boiler and the timer.

You need to draw out the existing system and wiring, then look at the wiring diagrams for std timers etc and it's easy enough.

Ffs, make sure this landlord agrees in some form of writing, be it text, whatever....

Yeah, so the cabling and block in the picture comes directly from the receiver. There's only one cable coming from the boiler itself (power).

The worst thing is while we we're doing the viewing I saw the below on the wall and thought "Ah! this place has central heating and thermostat".

I've ask the agents to fix this and they said "The thermostat – the landlord as informed us that there is no thermostat for that boiler,"

This would be great to respond with! Can you point me to the right act and section please?

I can see it is from new building regulations back in 2018 but cannot find the document outside of wales lol

This got me thinking, so the boiler has a 2016 stamp on it - Building regs post 2018 should mean new boilers are fitted with a thermostat (or just TRV? not sure). Can I prove when the boiler was fitted? I have a gas safety cert but it just suggests a gas sleeve be fitted, doesn't mention install date.

I've checked the Energy Efficiency Rating document I was given, the property is listed as having a programmer and room thermostat! .. I'm a little bit peeved off right now..

What should I do about this?

Go back to the landlord/letting agent and tell them that there’s documentation stating you have a thermostat installed, there’s one on the wall (you now have photographic evidence) and ask them to reconnect it.

Opening up certain boilers, may disturb what is part if the combustion circuit and isn’t your responsibility as a tenant.
