Got off to a shaky start so I'll swerve it till next year, anyway, surely it's more important to support local businesses in these difficult times.

Veganuary, they can do one as well.

Why would anybody have a dry January?

Because the anti-alcohol powers-that-be pressure them to do it, that's why.

There's a growing puritanical belief that if you indulge in alcoholic drinks you are a bad person. The puritans must be ignored; don't feel any pressure to go along with, or any guilt in not going along with, dry January.

Better off controlling your drinking all year. Kills one in ten working age adults never mind the moods swings resulting from mental health problems and the addiction. Like a few things heavy drinking is a form of deliberate self harm.
I drink a bit and last summer I over did it by way too much one night. Was a good night though. Can be fun. Just don't let it kill you.

Amen to that, same people try to belittle casual ganja use too, nom sayin?

I know several people who live in the pub and drink far more than is good for them 11 months of the year. Then they kid themselves by having a dry January. Another daft fad that people follow. Be sensible most of the year, or don't - but dry January is a waste of time.

I've been dry for more years than I care to remember.

Started around 2006.

No big deal.
