Closed for lunch

I am never going to be a millionaire through work so there is no way i am going to kill myself tryin.

MWroofline life is for living not for spending it working and worrying why someone is not open to sell you a mud guard.
The staff of the shop sound like they have a good balance of work and leisure

TRY IT

I'm not worrying about it, just merely pointing it out. Closing for lunch for an hour with three staff inside is living in the 80's and is bad for business. If you or the others that thanked you had your own business/shop then you would see my point .

Well i do have my own business and so does one of the guys that thanked me not sure about the other.
But im sorry i still do not see your point .

What is the point of constantly working 6 days a week if you cannot enjoy it.

When will you benefit from it ??? when you retire and you are to old to do what you dreamed of or worse still you drop down dead before gettin there.

I work a 4 day week max and in ten years i could count on one hand the amount of time i have done 6 days or more in a row but this was out of choice to get work out the way not for chasing the big job.

If you need to work a constant 6 days thats down to you and your circumstances but perhaps the shop is the one who has got it right .

Namely the gas and electric.

but if they are shut they will use less,

Just pointing out that this makes no sense.
Of course if they were closed they would use less...which is why we allowed that extra £7... :?: :!:

If you cannot see how a shop can be open for 6 days a week without lunches and still only have a 40 hour working week, I fear for your business. Are all the staff in a 3 way relationship? If not why do they all need time off at the same time and need to take their lunches together. It's bonkers.

I think this is getting a little deeper than my opening post. My main point was about being closed for lunch and three staff sitting inside, purely a business management issue.

I agree with you about working every day and not enjoying it, you are completely right.

  19th. Century working practices - the staff can all sit together for 1 hour and discuss why this country is a Powerhouse of Productivity    AND turn off the lights for that hour therby saving the planet too

MW Roofline, I agree with you on this.

My shop opens 7am-10pm 6 days a week and 10-4 on a sunday. I only do 39 hours, so does my manager.

This is why we have 40 staff under us! They can run the place, serve customers,

Would anyone accept a supermarket closing for an hour for lunch, while 10 staff were sat in the back eating sandwiches? No. This would be sheer madness.

Similarly, if I got to a shop (any shop) and there was a sign on the door saying "closed for lunch" I'd go elsewhere. I wouldnt come back later.

People in this day and age dont want to wait! If theres an alternative vendor for what they desire, they'll go there, as MWR did. And as I'd do. I'm not waiting about outside for the badly managed business to open again. Any business can open 7 days without ruining your social life.

You wanna close for lunch, move to Spain and call it a Siesta.

We have a shop where I live, sells nothing but; bread, cakes, sandwiches, pies, etc.

Closes from 12 unti 1?

Would probably be their busiest time.

But then we also have half day closing on a Wednesday for most shops including Chemists and POs.

Bloody Dumbrians.

There used to be a snack bar on our trading estate that closed at late lunchtime (1.45pm), no joke

The olde world that I grew up with had shops open from 8-5, closed on the market day...and open half a day, one day a week.

And people accepted that.

But big supermarket brands moved just out of town, open 24/7..

But it is only NOW you complain? The damage is done!

Go to France and try to find an open shop around lunchtime!
It's part of their culture to have a break and socialise around midday.
It's annoying for Brits who have come to expect instant access to everything, but you eventually get used to it and plan your day around the times that you want to shop.
Eventually you even stop moaning about it and just chill out a little more.
