The 'normal' metal capping is too thin - it can easily be drilled through, so be sure to use something much thicker.
Yes, previous owners used it (even when cables were in safe zones) and it seemed pretty flimsy when I moved some wiring previously.
Plus I remember BAS ranting about it in the old days!
