I'm getting around to starting on the front of the house and I ld really like to get rid of this horrible concrete canopy. (Pics attached)

My plan is to remove it by chiselling/cutting away at it but leave it flush against the brick as its sitting in the brickwork.

I'd then like to add a new canopy to hide the old edges, something like thatone attached maybe

Does this seem like a sensible idea or is there a better way to tackle it?

Thanks for any help

Your plan is OK and what tends to be done.

Use a sharp bolster (or grinder) against the house to cut the concrete flush without disturbing the bit left in the wall. You'll need a grinder or bolt cutters for the reinforcement, and it might be an idea to coat any bare metal with a rust proofer or metal paint to seal it

I would keep it, but maybe tart it up. You could add a light-weight glass fibre roof to it, maybe keyed into the rest of the roof, or something similar to your second photo, by simply using the concrete as the base, but adding a frame around it.

Bend a fascia board around it, fix with concrete screws and plastic caps. 450mm soffit board under neither it cut to shape and secured the same way.

Couple of drain holes for rainwater... jobs a goodun.

Maybe some planters on top...

I suspect it will be a precast concrete with steel reinforcing just below the surface, so drilling it might well hit the reinforcing. Best to check with a metal detector to find out where they are, so they can be avoided.
