Hi all. Just to advise that the second Engineer is not of the view that the boiler is scrap but has advised that a new case seal is required. Hopefully all sorted next week. Is it normal for two different Engineers to have such different outcomes? Is it necessary for me to have the first engineer rescind his recommendation? Thanks

yes there can be varying reasons for different opinions such as poor training , lack of experience , scared of their own shadow and then downright lying to make a sale . No need for it to be rescinded second engineer takes responsibility as last man there

Absolutely. Difference between someone who knows what they're doing and someone who either: doesn’t, is lacking in experience (my department) or wants a better paid job than a repair.
