Life for Death by Dangerous Driving?

Whilst there are countries where cycling is commonplace, the UK still has a long way to go if it wants to emulate them. Our existing infrastructure still requires significant changes and, where changes are made, it often seems to be to the detriment of vehicles because of limited space to implement said changes, although that's perhaps part of the plan. Further, rightly or wrongly, to change the mindset of the masses to choose cycling is another massive task that will take many years if not decades to achieve.

And let's face it, although cycling no doubt has a place, for many day to day tasks (work and/or leisure related) cycling simply isn't practical.

Shopping
Work commute (even if short, for many workers cycling isn't practical based on their job/career)
Days out (often entail taking quite a lot of stuff with you e.g. day at the beach)
Flexibility (maybe you want to visit a friend, then go to a retail park, visit another friend, then head for home)

Also, although eBikes help, many parts of the UK aren't exactly flat, so cycling for many would be quite difficult from a physical perspective.

Are many people overweight and unfit? Yes. However if we want to make cycling a genuinely attractive proposition, there are still many changes that need to be implemented at national/local government level. And let's face it, for those aged 30+ that aren't remotely interested in cycling, you'll probably never (or rarely) change those mindsets. These people will want to continue driving (or using public transport) for the rest of their days. So in reality it's younger generations that need targeted.

If anyone thinks we're going to see cycling becoming widespread in the UK any time soon, they're deluded.

Hear hear. We need this.
If you kill someone, you ought to be killed too.

Why all the focus on cycling?

I likes to cycle as a leisure choice but there's NO WAY do I want to be pressured into using it as my first choice of transport.

At this point in my life I could really use a 3 or 4 wheeled, single/dual seat, very lightweight, hybrid, weather protected but not necessarily heated vehicle. The 2 seat 'tilter' concept has been around for years & yet there's all this BS about pedal power as the way forwards . . . !

That is murder and he should have been sentenced to death. A car is a murder weapon and "weed" is a violence-inducing drug. It is astonishing that if you commit a crime whilst driving you get a lesser sentence than if you had committed the same crime whilst not driving. He probably would have got a higher sentence had he walked up to the baby and killed it; and a sentence in between that and the one he did if he had smoked "weed" before walking up to the baby and killing it, but kill a baby when you're driving? No problem mate, 6 years. You'll be out on 4.

I don't think these things should be decided by folk who are quite clearly bonkers.

Speed does not kill, distractions do.
sitting stationary in your car distracted by your mobile phone is unlikely to cause death to anyone.
travelling at any speed is more likely to cause death to someone.
Or I’m Boris johnson.

All my cycle crashes didn’t involve anyone else. Normally me trying to go faster or jump something bigger. Or sometime trying to sneak a cheeky rest on an enduro and falling asleep.

I don’t think I ever had a motorbike crash where I was to blame. Always someone “not seeing me”. Or rather not looking.

You obviously have never driven on the roads. Morons concentrating on their phones and not the traffic lights or queues of traffic, cause others to make adjustments for those selfish bastards.

Ok, let me tell you a story, although it took place in another country.
I'm the front passenger and my brother is in the driving seat.
We're stationary at a red light.
From the opposite direction here comes a scrap of a car with failed brakes.
The driver of that car pulled the handbrake once he realised he had no brakes.
His car starts swerving and my brother quickly passed the red light and turned left.
The no-brakes car smashes the car that was behind us at the light.
It would've hit us head on if it wasn't for my brother paying attention even when stationary.
Then of course nowadays there would be no chance of something like this happening because as soon as drivers stop at the light they're checking their phone.
And now let's wait for you to say that my brother committed an offence by passing a red light...
