Got a rat, as has neighbour. Might be same rat.
Could be living under my shed, and feeding in his garage.

Rat man charges £60 per house. Not sure if that is for turning up, or for catching the rat..

Might just get a trap.

Killer trap, or box trap?

For £60 the rat man will probably just put poison down. Then, they are going to die under your floor and stink to high heaven. And, believe me, dead rats stink.
Get a trap and then you'll be able to dispatch any that you catch and you won't stink the house out.
I don't bait rat traps as if you don't have any, you soon will because they won't be long in finding the bait.
I put the trap where I think is the most likely place and wait.

Are you sure it isn't a Siberian Hamster?

I have one of the mouse sized version of this device.

Very effective and I have loaned to several people who also found it very effective,

Get a trap and a pack of Bait blocks. put a couple of the bait blocks in the trap and leave the baited trap where you think is close to a run.

The trap will retain the rat(s) and the bait will dispatch them whilst the rats are trapped so you won't have to kill them before emptying the trap.

A good rat man will survey the property, identify possible entry points and potential nesting places as well as other risk factors that could be attracting rats. They'll look for signs of mice or rats to identify activity, and locations for traps or poison.

We had a mouse/rat man do that for us and we managed to identify the entry points and block them. We killed the rat with traps but more importantly no more have come back in the last two years.

Yep, Boris could give you names and addresses probably.

Do they give out their address when involved with espionage?.. isn't that defeating the object of being a spy?

My cat Jones had many an encounter with rats

neighbours had several bird tables were the food wood drop off

Constantly over loading the table with slices of bread ??

Jones did not take prisoners either

I had a renter with just one rat. Little bugger burrowed under the concrete front door slab, got up under the stairs and helped itself to whatever it could find around the house. Not that little, the burrow could have taken a small cat.
