We put ours out at 7.00 and it’s gone by a quarter past. On Monday we were told they were going to be an hour early because of the heat. I put it out at a quarter to 6 and it was gone by a quarter past. A few others didn’t though and they are still out.
Everyone here puts them out the night before, green recycling week, alternates with black general waste, each Tuesday morning. Brown bin is the garden waste bin, emptied every two weeks and on the Monday, but only in the growing season. Often as not, I forget until I look out the bedroom window when I retire, then I have to go get the correct wheelie bin out.
Last Monday week I completely missed it until 1am, when a bit restless I got back up, decided to take the dog for a wander off the lead round the village. Looking out in the dim yellow street lights I thought everyone had put out there green bins, took the green out, but closer examination once out, confirmed they were all black, so I left it until my return. Put the wrong one out and they ignore it. The council do have a website where you can check which date/which bin, but to save time checking - I fitted a nailed pointer in my bin shed. Idea was as I returned the emptied bin back into the shed, I flipped the arrow to point to the next weeks bin to avoid the guessing. It worked rather well, until it fell out of use.
The council advice is to normally have the bin out by 7am, but they actually collect here anytime usually between 9am and 11am. The dog watches for the bin lorry, then pesters me to go bring the bin in.
This week, on the local TV news, the council were were appealing for everyone to put their bins out early, because the bin men were working early to avoid the heat - I bet most people never knew about it.
