Been trying to fit these for a chain to go around in my garage. It says 16mm masonry bit but it was so tight when I hammered it in it bent at top and couldn't screw alway down, FAIL. Then next attempt I whirled drill around to widen hole, worked on first hole but too loose on second.

Do I need 17mm bit? Or is it all the dust falling down. These anchor things also seem to come apart easily, bottom bit which holds it together comes off

Here we go again, did you hoover all the dust out and use a hole cleaning brush? It doesn't look like it given all the dust surrounding the hole in the fourth pic.

What do you mean by 'These anchor things also seem to come apart easily, bottom bit which holds it together comes off'?

Like this?

The bit circled, came off and got jammed in hole, other bits came loose once too

I'm afraid you've missed the best bit! :)

Yes a little hole brush but don't go sticking it up your nose to see how far it can go just for fun. Of course the thing will come apart if you jammed it in the hole and then undid the bolt.

Looks like you are putting them in upside down. Try putting the bolt in the correct end of the sleeve and they might work.
Ok, I took whole bolt out of casing, is this correct? Not just unscrewed a bit.

After hoovering and brushing with toothbrush i pushed/hammered casing in. Definitely the right way, then screwed in bolt. How about depth? I went 70-80mm . Bit more than bolt's length.

The hole needs to be deep enough to accommodate the threaded bolt - so normally deeper than the anchor body (a common error). I put some ring bolt anchors into the back wall of our house month or so back and all the holes all needed to be 30 to 40mm deeper than the anchor body. 16mm is the correct size - in any case I think you'll struggle to find a decent quality 17mm SDS bit

If your hole is the right size (diameter) and properly cleaned out the anchor body will slide in fairly gently without the need to smash it with a hammer. Install the anchor complete with the bolt, much easier. And if it won't go in run the.drill in the hole again for a moment and clean out again ...

For loose ones a nut and washer can be put onto the shak of the bolt and used to pull the wedge pieces in the tail of the anchor body into place. With ring bolts they actually supply these

You say install anchor complete with bolt but surely you gotta unwind the bolt a certain amount or what's going to make it tight in the hole when you screw it in?
