Double fees for wealthy in NHS Scotland

Sturgeon and her comrades want all wealthy people out of Scotland.

We'll see a lot of this if we gain 'independence' as they'll need to plug the financial shortfalls somehow. Thing is, many folk that will vote for 'independence' won't have to worry cause they either don't work and/or they're often on the lower financial rungs, hence the 'independence' rhetoric appealing to them.

What's also quite interesting about this is, I wonder what they'd class 'wealthy' as. Knowing this shower, it'll be anyone earning above £40k a year ...

Her core support is in Dumbdee and Glesgaestan so, why not give them independunce and let the rest of the country live in peace.

So as well as paying more tax and NI than everyone else, the wealthy are now going to have to pay extra for NHS treatment.

My guess is that people affected would try to move south.
I see no good coming from that -it will create far more issues than the money it raises

Will I get a free treatment if nip up on a dinghy and claim asylum from England?

I don't profess to have the answers, however a growing number of people are saying we (nationally) need to have a serious conversation about our existing socioeconomic models and the ways in which they need to change to ensure adequate funding for our society in the future. For example there's growing acknowledgement that trickle down economics doesn't work for many other than those higher up.

There's always talk about 'we need to get proper amounts of tax from big business' e.g. Amazon etc, however I'm not sure (as in I'm not sure) to what extent this approach would plug gaps. The same with talk about non dom folk. Maybe all these things combined would add up to a significant % of the shortfall?

Regardless, in relation to this thread, we're living longer but not always heathier. Care costs for the elderly are going to rise and rise. It's certainly something that needs addressed in a way that's fair to everyone.

Let us know how you get on.

Just one small point, to claim asylum, you apply to UK, and currently Scotland is still part of UK.
But do keep us informed.

 Is this the same Scotland that some on here hold up as a model society that abolished prescription charges and university fees?

The thing is any sensible person knows nothing is truly 'free' in scenarios like this. I'm not saying it would raise billions, but I do wonder if working folk earning more than e.g. £20k a year should pay £1 for each prescription they get, with caveats for folk on tons of meds. I get migraine tabs on prescription and re-order them once/twice a year. I wouldn't mind paying a £1 each time.
