His journeys are often full of surprises but he always comes across as a man meeting other humans for the first time and not quite knowing how to behave...not to mention the eye-watering selection of trousers and jackets.
I'd like to take some of the trips but would sit in another carriage if i saw him.
Chris Tarrant's were much more fun; epecially the look on his face when they missed the only train going through the Australian Outback and would have to wait another week.:giggle:If i had to pick one, i'd take the Trans-Siberian. What a journey that would be.

I'd recommend reading Paul Theroux's book on that (The Great Railway Bazaar) which predates Tarrant, Palin, et al - fascinating book. A number of years ago the mother of an American friend of ours did the Trans Siberian from Vladivostok to Moscow. She said it would be her last great adventure and she wanted to do something to remember for the rest of her life. She was in her mid 90s, then. A quite remarkable woman

Used to think he did rather well on the this week show with Andrew Neil. Used to upstage Neil many a time but Neil would be loathe to admit it.

Sorry, but I still shudder at his choice of a bright pink jacket and a pair of pale green slacks...

A dedicated follower of fashion, or merely a wannabe trend setter?

Yep. Personally, I think Paul's is a lot more interesting than his son's
