Hopefully, with a government that cares about the UK in charge, we won't need a referendum.

The DUP and ERG seem to be building an argument that if Northern Ireland is still bound by EU regulations on goods, this stops the rest of the UK diverging from EU rules, and as a result the full benefits of Brexit can't be exploited. Johnson seems to have decided to hop on board. Expect to hear lots about divergence over the next couple of weeks. I don't really understand the argument. Are they saying that if the rest of the UK can produce goods to a lower standard, they will be cheaper and they will be able to export more to other countries? But then they won't be able to export the goods to the EU. It seems pretty complicated.

One of my predictions finally came true

Johnson said “The proposed arrangements would mean either that Northern Ireland remained captured by the EU legal order — and was increasingly divergent from the rest of the UK — or they would mean that the whole of the UK was unable properly to diverge and take advantage of Brexit. Half the population is not "nobody"

Back in the mists of time, a lot more people didn't care about facts and reality. Some of them even believed what Johnson said.

Others, literally, said "I don't care."

How is adhering to a fundamental rule, that there should be a hard border between eu and non eu states, being as difficult as possible. The eu have been incredibly flexible on the NI situation. It's not their role to make things easy for the tory party's election prospects.
