Common sense says you put most effort into minimising trade barriers with your largest trade partner.

40% of UKs trade is with the EU.

if the UK rejoined the SM it would have a greater benefit of 100x magnitude over getting a few lower tariffs with CPTPP.
Thankfully the general public are beginning to realise, so there is mounting pressure for politicians to address this.

So you are pointing out that the UK continues to have the EU as it’s largest trade partner by a country mile, but because of Brexit 100% of that trade is now more costly, less efficient, increased delays, less opportunity.


Thank you for providing the evidence that proves the UK should rejoin the SM urgently….we have a problem sluggish economic growth and a CoLC. Rejoining SM would be an immediate way to generate growth with no govt cost.
Its a no brainier.

The US you mean? US trade with UK exceeds the next 4 trading partners added together. Of the EU we only trade signifcant volumes with 7-8 of the members which is less than 30% (of the membership). Hardly worth the bother if you can do business with the biggest growing economies without paying membership fees.

Its not like all trade with the EU has ceased.

Depends on the framework of the society you find out choose yourself to be in.

It is not an absolute and direct relationship.

As I would expect more than 99.9% of us won't be exporting anything to this bloc (and therefore not making any money directly from this deal either), yours and my quality of life will depend on how whether the income is redistributed anyway.

Come on MB, you know very well the EU is our largest trade partner, it’s over 3x bigger than USA trade.

Inside the Single Market, trading with Latvia is the same as trading with France.

Hardly worth the bother if you can do business with the biggest growing economies without paying membership fees.

The UK was perfectly able to trade with the RoW whilst an EU member.….the shops in this country have been full of goods from China, India, America, Vietnam, Thailand , Mexico etc etc for decades.
