You’re only half an hour from Mont st Michel. Are you going there? If you do, it opens at 10.00 in the morning and it’s best to go then. All free but they know how to charge in the car park!

I have tried. They are too shy and I'm embarrassingly crap.
my eldest has chosen Latin as an option so hopefully she will get more confident. I think it's so important to learn languages. Just wish I had.

My son is apparently excellent at French, top of the class in year 8.
Didn't speak a bloody word while we were there. All down to me.
I was listening to 3 minute French podcast every day while commuting. I like to think it helped. But probably not much!

That is another great thing about France - lots of free parking. Some obviously gets full very quickly, but we parked for free in Dunkirk twice, and at Cap Blanc Nez. You can't park anywhere around here for free these days - even the local woodland parks charge for parking now. Crazy.

For such a proud nation, I found it strange that the French make it far easier to buy Belgian (or even Portuguese) beers, than their own stuff.

I have become a big fan of Cafe Gourmand - why have coffee after your dessert, or just one dessert, when you can have coffee with 3 or 4 desserts!

I'm shocking. I did OK last time working on the Mediterranean side after having lessons.

I encourage my girls but they just say I'm stressing them out.

If you do go for a pizza, ask 'em to not be stingy with the "huile pimentee pour pizza".
They'll probably give you one sachet per pizza. I alway need about three sachets, or from a bottle.

Otherwise, if you're down near the sea front, probably more in Ouistreham than Caen, go for the "moules et frites."

I'm bit clueless when ordering French. That does look good.

The only way to learn a language properly is to immerse yourself fully. A mate lived in Brazil for a year and was fluent - he had no choice because almost nobody spoke English.

I used to do French evening class years ago, and felt I got good, but can't remember anything now.
