Fitted hive to grant vortex pro boiler. Everything worked fine for an hour or so. Then later found that the boiler had stopped working and the power light is dimly flashing. Checked wiring and it has live and neutral from the spur and 1 and 3 goes to the same ports on the boiler that the old thermostat went to. I believe the light points to a blown PCB but would anything done with the hive cause this or is it just a coincidence that it blew shortly after installing.

Before concluding that it’s the pcb, check wiring and voltage, could be a loose connection or crimped on insulation. If it were crossed wires, it would usually point to a dead short and would have gone instantly (usually ime).

Post some photos of the wiring.

live and neutral are a spur taken from boiler socket. 1 and 3 are the old wires from the old thermostat and remain in the
exactly as they were in the boiler as per instructions I found online.

Quite a bit of copper on show, although probably not enough to arc and trip.

I know I was going to shorten it today. Just wanted to see if it worked. Can you see any other potential issues.

Silly question, but it's been done before - do you have a Hive for Combi (single channel - one button on the receiver), or Hive with H/W (dual channel - two buttons on the receiver).

If you have 240v feed to board and one or more of small indicator lights are flashing normal board is suspect.
Try heating World of spares for new board.
Not let any water onto board from the heating pump have you? Most regular cause of failure.
You should really have the 2 channel Hive on a oil combi.

Thanks. They old thermostat was just one channel. We are happy just letting the water do it's thing. the old thermostat died which was just temperature control and wanted to be able to have some time control too. Also having a log burner we also wanted the thermostat portable between front and back rooms depending on what we were doing., lm not aware of water getting on the board recently although the wife does like to dry clothes on top. The only other time was two years when on holiday a bit of a cowboy changed the flow switch. Not sure if he got water on the board as we were away and elderly in laws were house siting. The guy they found has since gained a reputation for charging for suspect work. So whether he got the board wet then or if that would even effect it now I don't know.
